| Education: | Jelmer has obtained a Master degree in Social Psychology at Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (2007). For his master thesis he studied the influence of attachment styles on emigration motives of Dutch citizens. Also, Jelmer is about to get his MSc degree in Leisure, Tourism and Environment at Wageningen University. Here, he materialised his interest in human-environment interactions by writing a master thesis about severe weather related Information Seeking Behaviour among tourists in New Zealand. Part of the results of the thesis were presented at the 'Advances of Social Science of Tourism 2011' conference in Surrey, UK. Also, he wrote a minor thesis on the influence of the weather on tourist experiences. |
| Career: | Jelmer has previously worked as junior researcher in the field of social security, becoming skilled in working with (local) governmental organisations. During his study in Wageningen, Jelmer has worked for a number of PhD projects as student assistant, doing qualitative fieldwork and data analyses. He has co-developed a Master level course in research methods (Leisure, Tourism and Environment), and has been teaching assistant for a BSc course (Disasters and Resilience).
