CARMACAL paper presented at BEST EN Think Tank XVI
Friday, September 2, 2016
Harald Buijtendijk and BSc Tourism student Juultje Blom presented a paper on CSR as driver of innovation and change during the annual BEST EN Think Tank
(Building Excellence in Sustainable Tourism Education Network). This 16th BEST EN was titled “Corporate Responsibility in Tourism – Standards, Practices and Policies”, and held in Berlin-Eberswalde, Germany, from 12-15 July 2016. For an impression read Juultje’s blog post about the conference here
The paper presents a study of CARMACAL
, the carbon calculator co-developed by CSTT. It analyzes how CARMACAL is constructed and how this process affects the ways tour operators in the Dutch travel industry mobilize value and change established business practices. The paper builds on Juultje's thesis research that examined the application of eco-efficiency measurements on selected tour packages of a large tour operator, as well as the thesis of Jorine Vermeer (ITMC), who studied how CARMACAL affects the ways tour operators mobilize value.
