CSTT debates sustainable tourism

Friday, November 9, 2012

Associate Professor Paul Peeters headed a team of three academics at the World Travel Market, London on 7th of November in The Debate against a team from the industry with representatives from Sustainable Aviation, British Airways, TUI Travel Plc and International Tourism Partnership.

The question: "is the travel and tourism industry taking responsibility for reducing its greenhouse gas emissions?". Paul's team showed that the industry does many things but by far not enough to tackle climate change. In the end, two thirds of the audience agreed with this point of view, notwithstanding the fierce pleas from the industry team.
