CSTT research presented at Dutch Tourism Expo
Tuesday, December 6, 2011CSTT research will be presented in the course of the ‘Changes in Tourism’ expert event at the Dutch Tourism Expo on Wednesday, 11th of January 2012.
The event programme, organised by ANVR in cooperation with CeLTor (Centre for Leisure and Tourism Research) and IUCN Netherlands, is centered around the many changes the tourism sector faces, from changing consumer behavior to impacts from climate change and climate policy. The aim is to contribute to a more sustainable, pro-active sector.
The day will start with a keynote by Professor Stefan Gössling, an expert on tourism and global environmental change issues, on how the sector can profit economically from climate change. This is followed by three parallel workshops.
One of these is organised by the CeLToR Sustainable Tourism Research Group, in which the CSTT participates. The workshop is called ‘Knowledge creates profit: research towards the sustainable development of tourism’, and will include a presentation by Floris Fluitsma, director of Sawadee Reizen, on the company’s carbon management.
Sawadee is a small adventure travel oriented tour operator from the Netherlands, and well-kown for its implementation of sustainable tourism initiatives. In 2010, CSTT measured the carbon emissions of Sawadee’s complete portfolio, and gave strategic advice on how to reduce these. Mr Fluitsma’s presentation will go deeper into the implementation of this advice and of the possible benefits and consequences for his company. The CeLTor workshop will be held twice (in Dutch), so attending stakeholders have a chance to join two different workshops. The workshops are followed by a network lunch.
