Sawadee wins RT Award – based on CSTT projects

Friday, November 9, 2012

Sawadee Reizen has won a Responsible Tourism Award 2012 in the category Best Carbon Reduction Initiative at the World Travel Market in London. The Responsible Tourism Awards – there are 15 categories – are among the highest industry recognitions for tourism businesses engaging in sustainable tourism. It is a reward for all the work Sawadee employees and CSTT staff have put in calculating the emissions of Sawadee’s complete product portfolio, and developing and integrating carbon management into the tour operator’s business operations.

CSTT and Sawadee started the first project “Inventory of greenhouse gas emissions of tour operator product portfolio” in 2009/2010, with a second project following in 2011/2012. Sawadee is the first tour operator in the Netherlands to actively work with carbon management. The tour operator has established a carbon reduction target of -6% in 2014, compared to 2010 levels (see their Sustainable Tourism Policy 2012-2014).

We congratulate Sawadee with this award, and hope it is a further incentive to maintain its position as an international frontrunner in responsible tourism and carbon management.
